How do I install Divine Right Online?
The application download and installation instructions are on this
site at: Installation
Why doesn't DRO run in my web browser and instead
require a client application?
The game generally needs a large amount of client-side processing.
There are a number of menus and dialogs necessary to play the game.
Therefore, it was easiest to build it as an application connecting
to a central server. It is certainly possible to provide the same
functionality through a web browser. We will release future versions
with just such an interface.
Why doesn't DRO enforce the game rules?
The question back is: Which rules? The rules originally published
with the game have been amended throughout the years and people
also like to add their own "house rules". Also, the newly re-released
board game of Divine Right will change the game rules yet again.
We want to provide our players with the flexibility to play any
variant they desire. We also have development constraints because
this is not a money-making venture for us designers and programmers.
Our limited resources are being placed elsewhere and are discussed
in: Game Design
Where do I get a copy of the rules?
The current release of DRO is best played with the original published
rules. If you don't own the old game and need a copy of them, try:
Divine Right Rules
How do I play DRO with different rules?
We tailored the current release to be played with the old version
of the rules. Because we enforce only the turn order, this leaves
a lot of flexibility for variants. However, in order to support
the newly published rules with the re-release version of the board
game, we need to make some adjustments and add a number of new counters
to DRO.
Is this related to the new re-release of the
board game?
No. However, we are in close contact with the makers of this new
board game as well as the original author of the Minarian legends.
How much does it cost to play DRO?
The game is presently in alpha test so installation support and
play of the game is currently free. Although we will never be able
to break even on the amount of money put into development (let alone
the time spent) we will need to compensate the copyright owner for
his permission to license his game. This will be addressed when
we release the game.
Where do I find opponents?
We will eventually provide a discussion forum for this purpose.
For the time being just email your availability to the DRO Moderator
and he will set a schedule:
info@divinerightonline.com
Do you have the owner's permission to use this
copyrighted game?
Yes. We currently have Glenn’s permission to use his copyrighted
material for playtest purposes, includingthis website.
Is DRO an Open Source project?
No. DRO is an effort to expose more people to Minaria and Divine
Right via the Internet. While we do not plan to profit on the game,
we do have a large investment in the game’s source code plan to
keep it proprietary.
May I participate in the development of DRO?
Yes. We have four people who have directly contributed to the development
effort and a number of playtesters. We have some lofty goals and
would welcome any assistance getting us there. Please contact us
with your involvement interest.
